How can one detect an ESD-damage?
Electronic assemblies are very susceptible to ESD damages which can occur everywhere and at any time. Even the smallest discharges can have an impact comparable to a stroke of lightning.
Discharges of this type cannot be seen, heard or felt by human beings, but nevertheless they are able to destroy electronic components or to weaken them so that a after a certain time, when the device is operating,
failures may be caused by this latent defect.
Especially this latter point is a source of great danger, as the repair costs for such defects often exceed the costs for precautionary ESD protection by far.
